THINK THINGS THROUGH
Often we don’t think things through, for a number of reasons. It can be mentally fatiguing to probe deeper levels, it gives us a feeling of ‘work,’ sort of like digging through hardened layers of sludge with a toy shovel. But we’ll get stronger when we put mental effort into practice, even a few minutes a day. Consistency is key to success in life. When we don’t think things through, complacency sneaks in because it’s so much easier to take the easy road.
We’re Capable of So Much More
Confusion has found a space to enter, followed by indifference, mental laziness, and finally, denial. It’s been a slow decline, a leaking away of our enthusiasm and our energy. Often we can cover up confusion with denial for awhile, but it surfaces when we feel stuck.
Practice Thinking
The antidote to complacency is to practice thinking – all the way through. Consider the angles, the subtleties, teach your brain to probe a subject deeper. Discover the “why” underneath your desires. Why do you want to find a new relationship? Why do you want a particular dream? Why do you yearn for more money, and specifically, how much do you need/want? At first it’s easier to do your thinking in writing to help you hold onto those illusive thoughts. It can seem challenging to think things through because our mind wants to leap frog away from certain subjects, or it wants to ruminate, or obsess. Writing down your thoughts can help keep you focused, keep the stream of your thoughts on track.
Take something you suspect you’re in denial about. Why are you stuck? Why can’t you move the energy of your life forward?
DON’T JUST ASK
Really expect yourself to come up with answers, even if they are only preliminary top-of-the-heap answers. And especially if they are answers that hurt (ouch – you’re not alone – we want to turn away from painful situations). It’s not easy to face ourselves, our decisions, our choices.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Keep in mind, nothing usually has to be done right now. You may have to make choices, or face making decisions, but at this point, you’re just in the discovery stage. You want to know what is really going on in your mind. I’m not asking you to examine what’s happening in your life – I’m asking you to become awake, aware and conscious of what is going on in your mind. In many ways, you are getting to know yourself for the first time.
You will have the strength and the courage
Later, if a change or a decision is needed, the way will reveal itself, the path will become clear, and you will have the strength and the courage to move forward. The way out of feeling stuck is opposite of how you got in: You allowed yourself to ‘fall’ into complacency – by choosing the easy way. Now you’re telling yourself you’re worth more, and you’re asking yourself to step up to a higher order of thinking.
Think it through as far as you can. You’ll get better – it will become easier
Let’s take an example. Have you gone years with something bothering you in a relationship that you’ve never been able to grasp, get a handle on, understand? Do you need to open a dialog with your Significant Other about something? Do you fear appearing unattractive if you go after the greatest desires of your heart because you might become more successful than someone else? Do you fear rejection or abandonment if you’re not always ‘available’ because your new place of growth challenges you to reach higher? Or have you outgrown someone and have more clarity, a natural order and process of Life.
Let Go - Your Life is Calling
Ambivalence can lead to a debilitating case of low self-esteem. That is why I challenge you to probe deeper, find out the reason behind your thinking and your actions. Do you feel self-conscious because you believe you lack something other people have, i.e. higher education, physical attractiveness, financial security? Are you holding yourself back?
If you focus on your attributes, which are many, life has a mysterious way of opening doors when you're ready to start taking action steps. Our growth is never wasted. But realize something few people understand: Always do you best without holding back your talents. In this way you won't disrespect the Creator of your Life. Everything else falls into place.
FOCUS ON YOUR VALUE
Take stock of your talents, abilities, passions. List all the valuable attributes you have, and when you're ready, if you need to walk more, or take a class, learn something new, read some books, join a gym, eat healthier, you'll feel a new and fresh motivation to improve, because you are learning how wonderful, and how liberating, a successful life can be.
You'll Bump into Others Along the Path
More and more women and men today are realizing their greatest dreams by elevating their thinking, freeing up their expectations and, in the process their self-esteem is soaring. People are feeling useful as they live their lives with purpose - on purpose.
Don't Settle For Less
Choices, decisions, it’s so much easier to just forget it, keep life going in the status quo.
But there is no such thing as staying the same. Life is dynamic and wants to change, keep you growing, stretching. Our best efforts to keep the boat from rocking can all fall apart when we don’t live consciously, on purpose. We have a reason for living, we need to pursue our own true calling, not ride on the shirt tails of someone else’s accomplishments. We're too unique to smother the spark inside that yearns to become a flame.
When you think things through, you learn to use your imagination. Plumb the depths where thought is creative, has answers and solutions. Thinking can be very empowering, freeing, energizing. It’s the most underrated quality we have. You will love your ability to think deeper, think things through. You will love the way your life responds.
